Since 1999, founded by Herman Badillo, 100 Hispanic Men Association Inc. has empowered communities through education, mentorship, humanitarian outreach, and service. As America’s first Puerto Rican-born United States Congressman, Herman Badillo broke barriers that forever changed Hispanic representation in public service. Arriving in New York City as an orphan at the age of 11, he learned English, attended public schools, graduated from The City College of New York and Brooklyn Law School, and became an attorney dedicated to public service.
Over a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, he served as New York City’s first Puerto Rican Commissioner, Chairman of the City University of New York Board of Trustees, a four-term United States Congressman, Deputy Mayor of New York City, and Chairman of the State of New York Mortgage Agency, while championing civil rights, educational opportunity, affordable housing, and economic advancement.
Herman Badillo also authored One Nation, One Standard, a thought-provoking book written for all Hispanics, encouraging future generations to pursue education, embrace leadership, work hard, and realize the opportunities available through the American Dream. In 1999, Herman founded 100 Hispanic Men Association Inc. with the vision of uniting Hispanic leaders to mentor youth, strengthen families, and create opportunities through service. Although Herman is no longer with us, his legacy continues to inspire the organization’s unwavering commitment to leadership, mentorship, humanitarian outreach, and empowering communities for generations to come.
Today, Chairman Louis R. Hernandez, Vice Chairman John Rojas, and President Louis J. Hernandez proudly carry forward the vision established by Founder Herman Badillo. Together with a dedicated Board of Directors, officers, advisors, committee chairs, and volunteers, they remain united in their commitment to empowering Hispanic communities through leadership, education, mentorship, civic engagement, and service. Guided by the same spirit that inspired the organization’s founding, their collective leadership continues to open doors, create opportunities, and ensure that the legacy of 100 Hispanic Men Association will inspire future generations.
